Metric Pattern Cutting for Women's Wear

Author: Winifred Aldrich

Number of pages: 224

Metric Pattern Cutting for Women’s Wear, first published in 1975, provides a straightforward introductory book for students beginning courses in flat pattern cutting. This fifth edition continues to offer an introduction to the principles of pattern cutting, with a range of good basic blocks and examples of their application to garments. New for this edition is the inclusion of colour to help students recognize the different sections of the book and to enhance the garment illustrations? Colour illustrations also offer a new dimension to the updated material on computer-aided design and the CAD chapter now provides students with a clear guide to the technology. The size charts have been revised to reflect the changes in body sizing, the co-ordination with European size charts and to the way that clothes are now marketed to different sectors. The great expansion of casual wear has led to the growth of 'flat cutting' with no darting, and the section devoted to this type of cutting has been further expanded. This best-selling textbook with its tried-and-tested presentation of authoritative text and clear diagrams remains the essential purchase for students of fashion and design.

Cutting Room Management in Apparel Manufacturing

Cutting Room Management in Apparel Manufacturing

Author: Dr. Prabir Jana, Mausmi Ambastha

Number of pages: 102

Cutting-Sewing-Finishing is the common terminology used for the overall process that takes place in any organisation manufacturing garments via the industrial way. The cutting room or cutting department is the place where all the pre-sewing activities like spreading, cutting, bundling, ticketing, fusing, and embroidery are conducted before the cut components are sent to the sewing department. In a garment factory, cutting department is pivotal from the point of view of controlling the material utilisation, considering the fact that material constitutes 60% of the manufacturing cost. Although the labour cost component in spreading and cutting is very less in comparison to sewing, the process involves material conversion which is irreversible, and hence, it is profoundly significant. Like any other department, the technology used and the processes being followed are the two most important parameters of cutting room. This multi-author book is an honest attempt on our part to cover all the cutting room processes in detail to unravel the relevance of material utilisation for garment manufacturing and thus provide an essential guide for cutting room managers and executives. These...

Metric Pattern Cutting for Children's Wear and Babywear

Author: Winifred Aldrich

Number of pages: 216

This fourth edition of Metric Pattern Cutting forChildren’s Wear and Babywear remains the standard textbook but has three majorimprovements. First, the sections have been re-organised to reflect changes inproducing and marketing children’s clothes. Today’spopularity of easy-fitting styles and knitted fabrics means thatbasic ‘flat’ pattern cutting is used toconstruct the majority of children’s wear and babywear andthis type of cutting is therefore emphasised in this new edition.Shaped blocks and garments, cut to fit the body form, are stillincluded, and are placed in chapters covering some school uniformgarments or more expensive fashion or formal clothes. The book nowclearly separates the sections useful to student beginners (PartsOne, Two and Three), and also offers more advanced or specialistsections for students who wish to pursue a career inchildren’s wear or for designers working in the differentmanufacturing sectors of the trade. The second change in this fourth edition is the introduction ofcolour coding to the sections; this makes it easier to identifyspecific processes in the book and enhances the illustrations. Finally, the size charts have been revised to...

Metal Cutting and Forming

Metal Cutting and Forming

Author: Anup Goel

Number of pages: 496

Metal cutting is the process of removing unwanted material in the form of chips from a block of metal using cutting tools. Metal cutting is performed on lathe machine, milling machine, drilling machine, shaper, planer and slotter. Grinding is the commonly used finishing process. Metal forming includes a large number of manufacturing processes in which plastic deformation property is used to change the shape and size of metal workpieces. During the process, for deformation purpose, a tool is used which is called as die. It applies stresses to the material to exceed the yield strength of the metal. Due to this the metal deforms into the shape of the die. Generally, the stresses applied to deform the metal plastically are compressive. Sheet metal working is generally associated with press machines and press working. Press working is a chipless manufacturing process by which various components are produced form sheet metal.
